Approaches to goal setting from the perspective of healthcare professionals can be challenging. A review of the literature, demonstrates that there are several barriers to the process of goal setting in rehabilitation and these are discussed in this paper. Often the nurse¿s role in the process of goal setting is ambiguous. Given the continual relationship that nurses provide during rehabilitation, nurses can empower, advocate, support and educate the patient at any stage during the process of goal setting. This acronym (EASE) signifies the role of nurse in process of goal setting through a range of activities that supports patients in the aftermath of a stroke.
