Approaches to goal setting from the
perspective of healthcare professionals can be challenging. A review of the
literature, demonstrates that there are several barriers to the process of goal
setting in rehabilitation and these are discussed in this paper. Often the nurse¿s
role in the process of goal setting is ambiguous. Given the continual
relationship that nurses provide during rehabilitation, nurses can empower, advocate, support and educate the
patient at any stage during the process of goal setting. This acronym (EASE) signifies
the role of nurse in process of goal setting through
a range of activities that supports patients in the aftermath of a stroke. This
paper examines opportunities the nurse can create to EASE the process of goal
setting.
