This article analyses the cross-disciplinary collaborative performance project 'Croon' made by Meridian Theatre Company (directed by Johnny Hanrahan) and the sculptor Daphne Wright in 2004. The research for this work was funded by an Arts Council of Ireland 'Critical Reflection' Award, and the article begins by contextualising this funding and the status of the 'artist scholar' within Ireland.
