Section: Languages in Drama / Theatre and Education: highlighting diversity or blending cultures?
Title: Taking
stock and looking ahead: 6 Years SCENARIO – a bilingual journal for drama and
theatre in foreign and second language education
By the time
the IDEA congress in Paris takes place the 13th issue of European
award winning journal SCENARIO will have appeared. To date authors from around
20 different countries have contributed to the SCENARIO-led subject debate
revolving around drama and theatre in foreign and second language education.
The editors will refer to SCENARIO-contributions which have responded to the question
“How can Drama and Theatre enhance and
support the learning of foreign languages?” A major focus will be on research
activities that have been undertaken to date to prove the effectiveness of drama/theatre-based
language teaching and learning and an attempt will be made to identify areas which
are still ‘under-researched’. The paper will conclude with an overview of
different performative practices in foreign language teaching and learning from
antique times to the present and a brief presentation of a new SCENARIO-linked
initiative, the establishment of a Centre
for Performative Teaching and Learning at University College Cork.
