The publication by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA, 2009) of Aistear, the Early Childhood
Curriculum Framework, marked a major step forward for early childhood education in Ireland. Many early year services already operated well established curricula such as the Montessori, Naíonraí, HighScope, Steiner, and play-based approaches. One such existing curriculum was Project E.Y.E. (OMEP Ireland, 2006) and in this paper, we focus on the challenge of reviewing and expanding it in the light of the Aistear curriculum framework.
