Learning objectives

1. To receive an update on dental caries within the context of overall oral health in the adult population. , 2. To appreciate the impact caries has on individuals and society as a whole.

3. To understand the value of a clearer approach to prevention and treatment, including the importance of patient education.

4. To comprehend fully the role of topical fluoride in guarding against caries.

 

Synopsis

This presentation will address one of the most challenging oral health problems in the UK – dental caries. This will be followed by an examination of how caries relates to overall oral health in the individual, as well as the UK population. This lecture will also discuss the value of communicating with, and educating, patients to achieve better oral healthcare at home between appointments. The seminar will close with an investigation of current thinking on in-practice prevention and treatment, including the important role of topical fluoride.
