The transnational context in which filmmaking is now embedded is posing new challenges for cultural policy, including film policy, given the growing privatization, new technologies and, in the case of Latin America, the Spanish or Portuguese language cinema that is jointly produced with Spain or Portugal within the framework of Ibermedia. The symposium seeks to examine the following topics: The impact of local or regional cinema on cultural identities, including national identity The role played by festivals Co-productions: their contexts and consequences The relationship between cultural policy and aesthetics Mechanisms to promote diversity and widen access Mechanisms to develop audiences for local or regional cinema Digital technology and cinema in Latin America
