The aim of my paper is to carry forward Girard’s idea, while at the same time mending some of its shortcomings, which arguably prevented the ideas to consolidate the kind of paradigm shift that is so vitally needed today in social understanding. It will focus on two issues. The first is a short presentation of a broad field within social theory to which Girard’s work belongs, aiming at bringing together like-minded undertakings to generate wider support. The second point is empirical and pursues further one of the most important paths in Girard’s work, related to the significance of distant history, extending to the Palaeolithic.
