A synthesis of tricyclic oxoisochromene derivatives via an intramolecular direct arylation of cycloalkyl-1,3-diketone-derived ,-unsaturated ketone substrates is described. Interesting mechanistic insight has been gathered, based on deuterium migration studies, induced by palladium (Pd).
