A 10 credit distance learning module examining the agriculture and food sector, looking at the functions of the food supply chain and the role of the actors in the chain. Discussion on the ethical and environmental implications of the current food business model and examine the role of the emerging models such as farmers markets, box schemes and community supported agriculture, in the context of sustainable development. Also investigates the dimensions of organic food production, the challenges of shortening the supply chain and the role of the consumer. This will involve analysing the policy framework directing the sector.
