Summary: This chapter explores new theoretical frameworks that position individuals dealing with adversity within resilient systems. It is argued that fostering resilience involves working with the agentive, mastery-oriented part of young people as they seek to meet their needs by scaffolding and supporting their efforts to mobilise resources (social, material, skills building) to address their priority concerns. A psychotherapeutically-informed participatory action research project is presented that explores this approach in practice. 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
