The accretion of different perspectives, sensibilities, and ways of thinking about user involvement has enriched HCI discourse and improved participatory HCI research. Designed properly, participatory projects produce mutual learning and transformative outcomes for all participants. It is important to consider the logic of participation when designing such a project. The most interesting projects avoid hierarchical positioning and position all participants as skillful, resourceful, situated agents.
