The Irish Earth Observation Researchers Symposium, hosted by the Spatial Analysis Unit of the Irish agriculture and food development authority, was held in November 2007 and focused about the renewed interest in earth observation in Ireland. There were over a diverse mix of topics including mapping habits, monitoring subsidence, DEM generation and mimicking the human visual system in interpreting imagery. Most of the studies made reference in Ireland mainly, either in the offshore marine environment, at the regional scale or at the local city itself. There was also a poster presentation that was about topics such as quantifying soil moisture from radar, monitoring vegetation seasonality across the island and identifying indicators of urban sprawl in the larger Irish cities.
