The volume of knowledge on autism is ever-increasing, and ever-evolving. Inevitably, the ‘ever-evolving’ nature of the knowledge base means that it is frequently characterised by differing perspectives on a range of autism-related issues. This presentation will highlight a number of autism-related issues which have been subjected to critical attention in recent years. Issues addressed include: Identification / Diagnosis of Autism; Autism Identity; Intersecting Dimensions, i.e., Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Socio-Economic Background; Determining the Effectiveness of Autism Strategies; Autism ‘Voices’. Importantly, the presentation will also explore possible implications for educational practices arising from the critical attention paid to these autism-related issues.
