Peer assessment (PA) involves students evaluating academic output of their peers and providing and receiving feedback. It can facilitate critical thinking, enhance metacognitive understanding, and promote reflexive learning. This study aimed to evaluate the experience of PA in an interdisciplinary postgraduate context. Data collected through multiple methods, from three cohorts of students, was analysed using thematic analysis. Analysis resulted in an overarching theme ‘Feedback: A balancing act’ comprising two often overlapping subthemes namely ‘Relating - intra and inter-personal' and ‘Skills and structure’. Results suggest that while participants were apprehensive and curious about PA, they experienced it as challenging and constructive. This small-scale study underlines the value of PA in terms of relational, collaborative ways of learning life-long transferable skills.
