Premiered at PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) in Los Angeles in 1997 by the Batu Gita Ensemble was a group of six percussionists and singers who played music solely on lithophones (musical instruments made of resonant stone) that I constructed. Like much of my music, this piece has no score but was composed and taught orally to the performers, reflecting traditional means of transmission in many music cultures. This piece features a setting of a poem by Balinese artist and long-time collaborator Ade Djelantik Karang.
