Inter- passageways, openings, crossings, overlaps, flow, traffic, mutability, possibility, change, exploration… Disciplinary—borders, coherence, limits, decisiveness, lines drawn, influences, practice, orderliness… Onto- being, existence… Genesis –coming into being, a beginning, beginnings, storied origins… This presentation explores the mobile and multiple roots available within movement practices through a playful investigation of developmental patterns. These ontogenetic patterns influenced a number of projects I worked on including an in inter-media performance and workshops in performer training from which I will offer examples. I will also discuss possibilities for future work in this area, looking at ongoing questions arising from this work which include: What does it mean to be aware of ontogenesis? How can it shape, support or develop understanding of movement and the meaning-making in performance practices across disciplines and perceptual frameworks?
