UCC 2023 Learning and Teaching Showcase
The strategic goal of UCC to provide "a student-centered, inclusive, and digitally enhanced learning environment" (Strategic Plan 2023–2028) is exemplified by the transnational student-led research project. Championing the scholarship of teaching and learning in a transnational research collaboration where power is shared equally throughout the research process. A student co-author and co-participant stated that "we weren't just students and academics, we were all researchers". The project enhances student learning by being student-centered and student-led. Utilising technology to bridge geographical distance, the initiative has both impact and reach, demonstrating our commitment to global participation and engagement. The project successfully broadens the fieldwork curriculum and advances fieldwork education internationally. It demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and is evidence of how students can successfully participate in the co-creation of research and curricula. Within the context of a crisis in recruitment and retention for the profession, student participants have published their research findings and recommendations in two strategic areas 1) Social work in rural areas 2) The ability of social work students to manage climate change-related disasters in the future. International journal publications and conference presentations provide evidence of student success. Strategic Plan 2023-2028 aims two, three and five are demonstrated by this project.
