This paper, published over two journal issues, deals with the exercise of lordship in the Carew moiety of the lordship of Cork and the sub-infeudation of its fees. The period covered is thus 1177¿1331. The fiscal workings of the lordship, held in military tenure of the crown by service of thirty knights¿ fees, are explored, especially its relationship with the Dublin administration. Then its constituent knights¿ fees are examined, which correspond to individual cantreds, 14 in all. These lay in the modern counties of Cork, Limerick and Kerry, and the descent of these fees and their lordly families are surveyed throughout the relevant period.
